Sauteed won out. Sauteed with blackened seasoning. I see left overs in my future today.

Taking the wife for her 1st ever archery shooting class at an indoor range. She has wanted to learn to shoot a bow for years. Iffn I still had all my stuff from my bow hunting days, I could teach her all the basics but I figure it's better to use their equipment and air conditioned range. Not sure where this is going but it should be a fun experience.

Not a bad idea on the shrimp cocktail. I will allow for that on next shrimp cook.

The Peach Lady was in town Thursday. Up from Colorado. An annual treat. Usually comes 2-3 times a summer. Mom made peach upside down cake.

Wife turned out to be a regular Robin Hoodress. Beginners start off at 20 feet from the target. The class used compound bows which I have never used myself. She never missed hitting the paper which is about 15" sq and put about 10% in a 6" circle bulls eye. Now she wants to know if I could set up a range in out back yard to shoot over the pool. Thinking liability could be an issue with the neighbors. Speak to the hand

Making beef shanks for the first time. It’ll actually for dinner tomorrow since we like to make saucy dishes a day in-advance to let everything meld. Iffin’ it comes out good then a couple of things to remember: 1). cut the carrots smaller, 2). don’t buy BIG pieces or, if they are on the larger size, use our SIL’s (bigger) Dutch oven. Son is gonna make two-mushroom risotto.

I love gumbo. We usually use shrimp and sausage.

Have you tried Prasek’s sausage yet? Made about 50 miles south on 59 in El Campo

I suddenly have an urge to make some cucumber salad.

On another note... I took out some kielbasa from the freezer and was thinking of doing that with some wild rice and beans for some eating and some lunches for the week. Now I'm thinking rice, beans and andouille sausage instead of kielbasa.

Either way, there will be come cucumbers that will end up dead for a cuke salad. I have a watermelon that most likely will turn into a carcass before Monday.

Going to Gridlife at Laguna Seca in October. I've wanted to visit that track since I was a kid playing gran turismo on Playstation.

Now I need to decide how I'm going to get there. I'll get paid about $500 for working the event, but that doesn't cover airfare/parking/ rental car. Some events they'll pay for flights but it's always spirit frontier etc. But if there's truck/rv space, I'd get assigned to one of those.

Not sure how I feel about a 5000 mile road trip either, even if I get a ride in one of the semi trucks or motorhomes it's a 35-40 hour drive each way without stopping. If I drove myself it would cost the same as flight n rental car.

Vacation request was approved, I'm pretty excited.

My HS buddy is a golf fan, so we watched some of it Friday and Saturday. I'm watching the final round right now.

Harman dropped 2 strokes early, but picked one up and has a shot at a bird to get back to -12.

The 23rd day in a row of 110 or higher. (most have been much higher between 112-117)

Two old college buddies called and want to play golf Monday. They say we will tee off at 7 and be done before it reaches 105 prolly. I said are you insane? They said we all used to walk the course in these temps when we were younger, and you walk 5 miles every day anyway, are you in or out?

In! d'oh!

Rather nice day weather wise. Hunk of pork loin has been seared and was put the oven low and slow for a couple hours. Trying a new recipe. Italian herbs, and garlic butter. Couple of cucumbers were slaughtered in the morning and marinated for a cuke salad. Prolly do steamed peas or beans in the microwave. I'm unsure on what the starch side dish will be. Maybe nuke a few taters or quick and easy tater tots or fries in the convection toaster oven thingy.

Doesn't sound like a delicacy but I'm too lazy to make anything fancy today. The kids were off with their friends so I spent a few hours on the computer doing work stuff while listening an audio book. I need to stop doing work on the weekends. That $hit ends on Friday and starts on Monday. Weekends are for relaxing and cooking, not doing work... but the stuff we are doing at work is neat, challenging and fun.

Hunk of pork has been cooked, partially digested and set for leftovers. A couple cukes, onions, garlic and stuff are dead. Did some roasted taters, they are in the rear view mirror. The watermelon didn't make it though the night either.

RIP.

Time for human sleepy time.
