The 8 yr old girl liked to swim and was staying at the hotel....
Was sucked down a pool drain pipe?
6"? 8" ? 10"? 12"?
I have no idea...
But she was found 20 feet from the pool bottom inside this pipe?
I don't know about you...but?? How can that happen...an 8 yr old human child ain't no small animal or medium animal...it is a way bigger sized object than a cat , raccoon or ???...

Very sad occurrence....

Water pressure can shove a squishy meatbag into a small opening pretty easily.

Tragedy indeed.

It could she got next to an pump intake, got caught in the suction and held until she drowned.

Pool/spa pump intakes are supposed to have protected grills to prevent this problem, but it may have been removed, broken or never installed.

I have to wonder why an eight year old was swimming alone, but we do not know alll the facts.

Ya, there shoulda been a grate/cover of some sort.. unfortunately kids have drowned in the past by being stuck on those but I've never heard of one going down the pipe... very sad.. Sad

Someone is in trouble for sure...

It's worse, the hotel had many violations but the pool was not closed.

The lawsuit reads that Aliyah was "violently sucked into a 12 to 16-inch unsecured open gap in the swimming pool flow system of the hotel's lazy river."

Quote:
Authorities have said that the pool's equipment, that Aliyah was sucked into, was "malfunctioning."

Nava said there were known issues with the pool's equipment and it's back flow.

Aliyah was "violently sucked 20 feet back into a pipe that was about 12 to 16 inches wide," according to Nava.

He said the girl's body was found contorted in the motor when the pipe was cut during the search.

"It was horrific," described Nava.

The Houston Health Department investigation at the hotel pool reportedly found multiple violations.

Authorities had to drain the pool and pushed poles with cameras to look for Aliyah.

Her body was reportedly recovered after 13 hours.

Nava said Aliya was an avid swimmer who loved to swim.

Aliya will be laid to rest on Thursday. Nava said the funeral will be public.

Lawyers are also working to get a temporary restraining order to get access to the facility and to view surveillance video that could have captured the moments that led up to Aliya being "violently sucked" into the swimming pool pipe.

I would gladly pay a tax to have a tube suck Portland away. Extra if they take the I-5 corridor all the way to Springfield.
