Arsenic Levels

Arsenic levels in drinking water: A 1999 report by the National Academy of Sciences determined that arsenic causes bladder cancer, lung and skin cancer and may cause liver cancer. Both the European Union and the World Health Organization have adopted a new standard for allowable arsenic levels in drinking water..10 parts per billion (ppB). The Clinton administration proposed lowering the levels from 50 ppB to 10 ppB by 2006. Bush reversed this order. Why? Ummm, but excuse me, doesn't anyone care about this?......Brent

Yes, we care. But it doesn't take a government study to realise that lower Arsenic levels are a good thing. Yet the Clinton Administration waited 7 years, 11 months and 27 days to pass the regulations. For those numerically challenged, that is 3 days before he "blew" outta the Oval Office. Why would he wait so long? Could it be because MANY small municipalities can not afford to meet the new requirements. Could it be that Millions if not Billions of Federal Money would be spent to bring these municipalities into conformance, and that in doing so it would thwart any possibility of meeting budget for Dubya and gang? Bush did not do anything except keep the restrictions exactly where they have been.

Hmmm.... Great insight. Too bad most Americans don't know what's really going on. They just see a compassionate Democrat's valiant efforts dashed by a malevolent Republican.

Well from what I've read so far,it seems that about 95% of Americas drinking water is well below the 10 ppb mark already and the rest are well below the 50 ppb mark(if not they should be addressed and cleaned up or closed down. Also the majority of the arsenic comes from natural sources. Here in Orange County,Ca. its about 3ppb.So in answer to your question Brent.Hmmmmmmmm.Dosen't really seem to be a problem here???.Enlighten us PLEASE.Thats why they call him Slick Willie don'tchaknow!!!

It is really too bad that the Liberal Talking Heads have tried to make an issue out of this, mainly because they don't have anything to try and scream foul on against the Bush Administration! They have to try and make something out of nothing, such as calling a 350 mph Surveilance/Recon plane a "Spy Plane" thus making our flight crew members look like spies while they were being held captive. Babs wants a Democratic Party network, hell, we have 5 full time news stations 24 hours a day! Only one of them, Fox, is not biased to the Democrats! Charlie

The drinking water in my area is approx 7 ppb. Way below the proposed standard. In fact, my wife is forced to add arsenic to my drinking water.

This was a test.....I'm not a follower of the liberal corner folks, I saw this article and was just curious what the line of thinking was on the part of the Bush administration. I unfortunatly don't get to the newpaper lately due to all of my medical studies, so I figured you "enlightened bunch" could give me the answers....as usual, the Republicans own this board......Brent

Brent, that is because none of the "Democrats" or Liberal Left can find serious issue with GWB and the way that the country is operating at this time! It is really neat to have integrity in the office and how about flushing the skin flicks from Air Force One? Wonder if Bill had any of Monica "smoking" on the Montecristo?

Brent, the Republican may own this board, but the Democrats want to collect taxes on it.
