Excuse me but, Sen. Jeffords is one of the most popular Senators to ever come out of the State of Vermont. He didn't do this for publicity, he did it because the Republican Party and he have different ideals, that's it. He disagrees with the large tax credit and well as what Mr. Bush has done for education (nothing). Jeffords being on the Education Commitee and not getting Republican support would be enough for anyone to leave their party. They (the Repub's)treated him like crap and then tried to bribe him by offering him another post on another big commitee. What a bunch of losers. To say he did it for any other reason is ludicrous and just plain wrong. It has been coming for awhile now. As a Vermonter myself (originally), I am very proud of him for sticking to his ideals and not giving into Bush's bribery......Brent

Brent, very passionate points, but way off the mark. Even if Jeffords did not do it for the publicity, it was the WRONG way to show his dissatifaction. We should recall the plight of one congressman in Texas, the now republican senator Phill Gramm. He was a DEMOCRATIC congressman who became dissatisfied with the party. He resigned, and ran for re-election as a republican. THAT is the honorable thing to do. NOT to CHEAT the voters and the party which GOT YOU ELECTED. Don't walk the party line despite the circumstances. What Jeffords did was dishonest, deceiptful, disrespectful, and just plain WRONG.

To call Benedict Arnold Jeffords a man of honor is like calling Monica Lewinsky a vestal virgin! He is doing this for reasons other than those pointed out by Brent, he is a little man who wants lots of publicity and I don't care what you say..HE RAN AS A REPUBLICAN, and he should serve as one, wheter he votes with GWB or against him! If he had any honor at all, and he doesnt, he would have completed this term and then switched parties and not go in on one party (using their money) and then pull the old switch! Lots of publicity and coverage for a "worm" who got his silly little feelings hurt and is pointing to a book deal which I hope never comes about! A creep. Charlie
