Bids For VERY Large Quantities Of Cigars

I've noted in recent months that there are occasionally bids for VERY large numbers of cigars on some auctions. IN one instance today, in which 50 5-Packs of a particular cigar were up for auction, one bidder bid for at least 41 of the 5-Packs.
That's very likely NOT for personal use, but for resale and profit.
Is there any restriction on Cigar Bid for such very large purchases?
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong about it, unless such bidding "drives up" the price of the cigars inordinately. Might this be someone attempting to do so?
Curious.

Could very well be but there’s also the possibility that it’s a simple shotgun bidding strategy for a cigar that the bidder REALLY loves. Bid low for a lot of them and see how many you can win at a ridiculously low price.

I don’t think CBid GAF on who wins what or at what price ‘cause there are thousands of other auctions in which people overbid. Purdy sure their profit margin / gross margin goals are met despite what we may see as foolishness.

cant judge the intent by the bid - i have done similar when lots of a cigar i really like are available at a low price and i have the money to blow. i enjoy ageing cigars and have some boxes over 20 years old so have no issue winning them all and letting a bunch sit for years while i work through them. it also helps because i do some trading, box passes and such on here so always have stuff i am willing to throw in a box to someone.

One could propose a person bidding early at a low price may bid on lots of lots hoping to get as many of those lots at their top price as possible. As the earlier and higher the bid the more priority you get in the bidding process.

Or you could not be a pansy and thwart this bidder by taking away his winnings with a manly bid on 41 lots.

How many BOTL in the forum here do you think have more than 41 five packs worth at any time? If the answer is more than one, than you’re projecting.

ZRX hit it. It's a bidding strategy.

Your bid/winning priority factors include how early you got in on the bidding.

There are plenty fivers out there that I would gladly purchase 50 packs of at the right price.

I.ve been known to bid on multiple lots but not that many. 10 or 15 is about my limit and it rarely works with a low bid, best in history was probably a 3 lot win. It wasn't my bid and the bidder will probably end up with no lots unless he bumps up the bid.

Was this the auction ? : Lot #4959073
3 or more large lots of this particular 10 pack are open

I went through 10 PAGES of 5 packs and closest to 50 I saw was LGC series R, N or S I don’t care and it was 40 I believe but I didn’t see a winning bid over 6 units. Then there are a few listings of Buffalo Trace of 30 and 15 counts with FAR TOO many morons bidding for 10-12 units.

Listen pal, I tried to be nice. If you’re bidding on that crap you should be thankful not complaining. The largest count items I’ve seen here recently were LAdC Mi Amour 10 packs and even those got bid to prices that adding shipping wasn’t worth the risk of losing a bid so that I could avoid the laughter in the halls and the looks of doubt I’ve caught off with a perfect record of manly bidding.

Tony I think you nailed it, the Cafe Con Leche 10 packs.

Still that’s only $2242 before shipping and it’s post tax time, these could be his favorite smokes.

FYI a SHPO is NOT going to sell that many of any one cigar even at that price. Oh and you’ve been outed now as a losing bidder on flavored cigars.

TELL ME you eat waffles and let’s certify the trifecta of losing.

It was just a simple question, ZRXX1200. I wasn't trying to ignite some childish, "macho man" contest. It's only about cigars.

Blah blah…..

It could be someone who owns a convenience store, but unlikely.

Don’t assume they couldn’t be for personal use.
There’s guys here with 5,000 - 10,000+ cigars.
Buying a couple hundred of their favs is like you buying a fiver…

The Tabak Especial auction on 10 pack belicosos has about 3 hours to go and 1 bidder at $ 38 ea. is winning 50 packs, That's 500 cigars for $ 1900 or $ 3.80 a cigar.

Another auction ending in a little over 2 days for the same cigar in a 5 pack is currently at $ 3 a 5 pack. Biggest lot was 10 out of the 40 available and some of the winning bids are for $1.

Another lot of 50 is closing Saturday is currently bid to win at $2.50 and one bidder has a bid for 10-10 packs at $ 10 each.

I also saw at least one lot on free fall.

Interesting goings on. I wonder if this cigar wasn't selling and there was a lot of inventory so CBID may have bought them all and is pushing them out. There is another variety of the cigar also on the auction and it is getting better bids on smaller lots.

Yeah ... right. Sure didn't sound like "joking" Several of the replies were simply "macho man" posers, whose basic "contribution" was on the order of "My cigar's BIGGER'n your cigar!" Y'All need to grow up or find another form of amusement beside being "bad boys" online.

Thanks for the pertinent comments, TonyGraz. I'd also wondered if CigarBid wasn't perhaps a player in such situations.

Wordsmith,
May I suggest the Forum at cigar.com
You will find it much more to your taste.
Very polite fellows over there following DEI protocols and the like,
We are just a bunch of 4th graders here who pay retail for Gurkhas, and brag about it.
And yes, our cigars are bigger than yours...

FV of Bronx NY reall llikes Aging Room...

OP, unless you see the same user bidding no large lots of different cigars all the time, i doubt they are filling up their shpo shelves... Probably just stocking up on a favorite cigar, or possibly buying to fill up one of those display cases of cigars at higher end restaurants, clubs, etc.

Wow. I wonder why they don’t just buy boxes. Probably because they are not offering them in large quantities. That would be 10 boxes I guess. Harder to win a lowball bid on that many boxes?
