Howdy, brothers. The heat and humidity and the bugs are increasing every day here in East Texas. Cramps my cigar style.

90 right now... humidity is supposedly 47%. Bugs really haven't been a problem yet. Lots of dragonflies and such... mosquitos haven't been as bad as I expected, yet.

Good Tuesday Afternoon to All! It's a sunny 90° a little higher than the 88° forecast. Humidity is just 44% and the Cicadas are continuing their serenade.

No, just no! It's a nice 85 for a high and the RH is maybe 20% but June-Sept are on the way.

Rolling Stones are here tonight iffn they remember where they are and why.

Kick some azz and win some nice cigars. 😎

Hot and humid here…smoking cigars is going to be less enjoyable until late October.

It’s not like they need the money but I’mma sure the touring literally keeps them alive…more so Keefer than Mick.

Years ago I read that Mick said if Wyman or Watts retired, that would end the group. I guess he forgot that.

Nah, I am out here trying to take Palama's job. I hear the CBID historian job comes with great dental and optical plans

Edit: Didn't realize there were other Noob Trade threads. This is what I deserve for trying to overthrow Palama

Up early for pest control to come to the house followed by shoulder MRI and eye exam today. Exciting, huh? Wife works all day and has Thursdays off so i am looking forward to tonight and tomorrow. Might have to throw a dispensary run into the mix of to-do's.

I was going to smoke a pork butt today. Turns out my Masterbuilt smoker is shorting and it looks like the control panel has given out.

Now I’m shopping for a new smoker.

Any suggestions?

NOT electric. Can't go wrong with the 22.5" WSM. Lots of recipes, tips, tricks, etc... for that smoker. Plenty of options for modding, too. My buddy has wheels on his, and a lid hinge. Plus you can get automatic draft controls for it and set it and forget it for overnight cooks.

Got rid of my Weber Smokey mountains for a Pitboss pellet smoker a few years ago and almost instantly regretted it. I have since went back to the Weber's. They make for an excellent smoker. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once dialed in they are incredible.

I’m done with Masterbuilt. Thinking Traeger but they are pricy.

With Masterbuilt I guess I got what I paid for as far as how long it lasted.

Good to know about the PitBoss pellet. I did see those.

I’ve got Weber Kettle for charcoal, Weber Traveler for mobile gas. All done very well.

I got brother in laws that are Big Green Egg people.

You need airflow. Electric and pellet are easy but don't provide enough airflow for the best bbq.

WSM is my vote.

We have a Green Egg, love it, but several people in this area love their recteq grills.

I've seen 3 votes for the WSM.

I will remind you that I started with a WSM and then tried the Camp Chef pellet... sold it and went back to the WSM. My buddy did the same... got a pellet grill and went right back to the WSM. He even fabricated a stick burner and sold that, too.

Traeger was good when it was made in the USA at the beginning... all their electronics are made in China now. Not good. And pellet smokers just won't give you the same BBQ that a WSM will.

If you've ever watched BBQ Pitmasters... almost every crew has a WSM along with their custom built stuff. There's a reason for that. It's just a damn good setup.

2nd choice would be the BGE. More expenive and heavy as sheit, but makes damn good BBQ with less fuel. Holds heat better and gets really hot if you need that.

Come on rookie. We get an average of 120 days each summer with temps of 100 or more. Has not stopped me yet. Don't you have a couple of lovely young things to fan you and fetch cold drinks?

Doc, DED, East Texas is terrible in the late Spring, Summer, early Autumn. We get fewer than 120 days at 100 or more, no doubt. We get a whole lot of days 95 degrees and 85-90 humidity and that’s no joke. I lived in FL for about 4 years and I loved everything but the hot and humid weather. Virginia is no joke either, I lived there for about 3 years. The dry desert heat is preferable to humid conditions for me. At 120 days of 100+ is tough though, no matter how you slice it. If only I had a few lovely young things to step and fetch for me, how wonderful life could be. Maybe I should pack up and move to Thailand where that might be possible with my low income lol.

EDIT: the 12 years or so I lived in San Diego was the best climate I could ever hope for. The weather and geography is beautiful.

I’m from Red River county but I grew up and went to K-12 in Garland. Spent a lot of time with grandmothers and aunts, uncles in RR county in a place called Johntown between Bogata and Talco on 271.

Sounds better than Bay City Texas down in Matagorda County, surrounded by swaps and rice fields. Mosquitos in clouds of thousands and off the scale humidity. Only two seasons, A/C and Heater.

Mostly south of I-30 I believe. Cass, Upshur, Camp, Morris counties I think. Red River county has a lot of ground water and cows and not much else lol
