Morning folks. Supposed to tee it up in a couple hours but it's looking kinda dark and blustery out there right now. Going out for a walk cuz you don't get much exercise driving around in a golf cart.

Gotta hit up the sales and get some corned beefs to make pastramis. Last year I did 3 flats and 3 points and it didn't even last a week. Mostly because I gave most of it away. Promised new coworkers some pastrami so I think I'll do 5 flats and 3 points.

First trigger fish I have caught that was big enough to keep. The Cobia have to be 36" to keep and the entire boat can only keep TWO. Very blessed day today... Pray Pray

It went how I expected it to go. The boy complained that I did too much of the work last year. He won some trophies last year tho.

This year he had grand plans but waited until 10 days before the day to ask me to cut it for him. In the meantime we missed the two open house nights at the woodshop where we could've used the tools to do the things. I did what I could with the tools I have and he did the rest. I cut it, I poured the lead. He painted and assembled. Which really is the way it should be but he got crushed by the competition. He's bummed, I knew this would be the outcome. He didn't even want me putting the graphite powder on the axles because that's cheating, so he learned a lesson. His best time was a 3.24 and the overall best was 2.906. Best in his grade was 3.0x but top three were 3.1x and under.

Went to the store after bringing wife and boy home. Figured I'd get the corned beefs tonight rather than fight with the crowds tomorrow or Sunday. And hopefully have time to actually make the pastramis this weekend. Meijers had points and flats for $3/lb so I went there first, 20 minutes away. They were completely sold out. Found the cooler section where they belong, none there. They had some other brands for like $10/lb but I'm just looking for pre-cured brisket. I can get my own brisket for $5/lb or less and cure it myself so I'm not looking to pay more than $5/lb. And corned beefs are usually pretty chitty briskets to start so I really don't want to pay more than what I can do it myself.

Went to the local grocer, ad said points $3/lb flats $5/lb. The biggest point they had was 2.5 lbs!!! WTF?!? Most were 1-2lbs. The flats were mostly 1-2lbs too. I dug around and found two 4 pounders and paid $40. Put em in a pot of water and stuck em in the fridge to desalinate. Gonna change the water a few times and give em at least 12 hours to get the salt out.

Might make another run in the morning if I wake up early enough and see if Meijers restocked theirs. I like the flats for pastrami slices but I like to mix in some point meat on the sammiches. Not gonna screw around with no 1lb point.

Pastrami on Rye with spicy mustard, white cheese and a big sliced dill. With a Pale Ale or IPA. That’s a hill I’d die on.

The powder graphite used to be legal. The kit instructions even recommended it but didn't include it.

Losing sucks. It's like going fishing and not catching anything. Sure, it's better than work and you share beers and cigars with friends... but that's just putting lipstick on a pig. The whole point is to catch fish or win a prize if competing. fog

Disagree on that. The whole point is father and son doing something together. Win or lose that is what will be remembered years from now.

Happy Saturday morning folks. Kinda chilly 44 going to 64 and sunny. Storm moved through yesterday but we managed to get the golf in before any rain.

Corned beefs got 3rd water exchange. They should be about ready. But now I have to go to the store for peppercorns cause I'm out and I don't prefer to use ground pepper for pastrami. Gotta be freshly cracked peppercorns.

You're reading too deep. I agree with you on the father/son bonding point.

But losing sucks, as does going fishing when you don't actually catch fish. Yeah... you still get your buddy bonding time and there is fun to be had... but if you win a prize or catch fish it is much more fun and much more memorable.

You ever hear anyone say "Remember the time we went fishing and didn't catch a damn thing!"?

Nah, I still disagree.

When I was about 6-7 we took my dad's old GMC truck up to northern Az. Older brother, dad and I barely fit in the cab, had to stop climbing up the mountains for hours since the truck vapor locked twice. Soon as we got to the trout stream I fell in the creek and had to stand by the campfire for an hour to dry off. In two days of fishing we caught maybe 3 smallish trout.

Was one of the best trips I have ever had. Angel
