Good morning everyone. We are having a great time on our vacation. We saw the redwoods today, and are now in Mendocino. Medicino proper is an artistic community with a somewhat interesting heritage.

Wife has a friend coming in Friday for a wedding on Saturday.

I guess buying a suit, shirt, tie, socks and shoes was on the agenda.... I have a belt. Anxious Shirt is tight in the shoulders... need to return it. I wanted to try it on, but they just wanted to take measurements so they didn't have to unfold it and unpin it and stuff. Well... fuggers should have listened to me.

Oh, well... now I have one for whenever I need one. Which I hope is very infrequently.

Suits are item of clothing I no longer wear. I will wear dress slacks, a blazer, and so on. I do have a tuxedo for black tie events.

Waite a sec... didn't you move to Florida? d'oh! Even here in South Carolina, clean pants and an ironed shirt are good enough for funerals, wedding the same.

Yeah. Anyone who knows me well will tell you my uniform of the day is shorts and a t-shirt. Sneakers or Oofos.

I have 4 pairs of pants that are microfiber material. Waistband like sweatpants. 2 front pockets and a back pocket with zippers. 90% of the time it's too damn hot for any other kinda pants.

Trashed my suits when I moved. I had 2 nice ones, actually... got them when I was 215 lbs. So I had them taken in... but they never really fit right again. I was able to find what I needed without any tailoring. 44R jacket, 36/30 pants are a bit big in the waist, but I didn't want 34's and no ball room.

Yeah... thought about just slacks and a nice shirt, but every now and again I like to look good, ya know?

I have a question for all of you. One of our grandsons and his wife built a house, it's 99% complete. His wife's family decided to do the driveway into the place and put in the lawn.

About 75% into the driveway/lawn they sent out a text with progress shots and a request for funding to complete the job to myself, the other grandparents and the other Father. This is not the way we raised our sons, they are very independent, what would your response be?

Thanks!

I have a suit but I can't tell you the last time I wore it. I use to have 3 of them but donated two of them since I don't need them. Not even sure if the one I have fits but I haven't gained or lost weight in a long time so it probably does. Maybe I have a high metabolism (shrug). Seems like my body hovers around 155-160 lbs no matter what I do or eat.

I eat when I'm hungry and snack throughout the day - candy, fruit, veggies, yogurt. I don't have an exercise regiment but probably walk about 8-10 miles a day at work. I prefer to be on the shop floor solving problems and testing new designs rather than sitting at a desk chair or in sales meetings. I know what I gotta do, if you need me come find me or page me.

If I need to dress fancy, ironed khakis and shirt is dressing fancy for me. Otherwise its cargo pants, short or long sleeve T-shirt and sweat shirt if it's cold. I'll wear shorts on personal time in the summer but while at work I prefer long pants while others prefer shorts.

A few guys I work with wear shorts all year long.

Me to Josh (Josh is average build, say mid 20's years old): "Josh what is wrong with you? It's MA in January - temp says 10° F outside and you are wearing shorts?"
Josh to Me: "I'm not cold. Sure it's cold when I go from here to my car but I'm not cold."
Me: shake my head... "something is wrong with you kid."

Maybe these short wearing folks in the middle of the winter in MA have a better circulation system than I do. I don't get it but whatever... as long as they are comfortable who am I to say.

{I still think there is something wrong, maybe they are not even humans Think }

I have been known to wear shorts when it's in the 30's here... but also a long sleeve shirt, hoodie, beanie and gloves. My legs just don't get cold.

My response would be a nice way to say...you got yourself into this, get yourself out. And if that was met with resentment, I would add why would u even ask? Do I ask u to pay for 25% of gifts I give ppl?

Which 25% remains? is it the part closest to the house? Just park where it ends until they have the cash to finish it. If it's the part by the road, I hope they parked on the street!

^^ I responded, They both have birthdays soon, if they would like to use that money we could do that.

If you do too much I believe you rob them of the accomplishment of doing things for themselves. We raised our sons to be independent, OK. very independent. It might have been different of we had a daughter, but I don't really think so.

What a beautiful Monday! Sunny and 70, nature is green and growing again here in the Northeast, and I'm on the right side of the dirt. What was really special is CashMoneyDave and DeadEyeDick both hooked me up with some outstanding cigars. Today is a great day!

If you haven't bought your suit yet, based on price, quality and fit: I highly recommend Brooks Brothers Outlet!!!

I threw out like 13 suits and sport-coat/pant combos as well as all my ties when I retired. Love every minute of never seeing them again. Closure.

Went out and bought a timeless style, charcoal-grey, suit, a few shirts and a few ties. That's all I need. I refuse to rent a tux, so I used to have one when all our friends were getting married. But now, I would just wear my suit with a black tie or bowtie, depending on the circumstances.

Get your son and his wife on the same page and let them deal with it in a way that doesn't leave hard feelings. They should not convey your discussion with your son or about talking about how you feel to them. you. One or both should express "thier personal concern. If there are hard feelings after that, so what."

(Did they go over budget?)

Good advice, that was my first call after *discussing it with my wife. Smile

* I tend to be very thrifty and sometime the exact opposite. Anxious

You did tell me that. I found what I needed not too far from the house. Little bit of sticker shock, but I did get pants, jacket, shirt, tie, shoes and socks. Good to have something nice when I need it.

If I wasn’t consulted before this generous offer was made I would have to regretfully decline the invitation. It is a hairball move to make such a generous gift and be the hero only to have to “drag” everyone else in against their will to get it paid for. I know this probably isn’t so much about who gets the credit, but the principle involved here is fundamental. That’s just my opinion.

I have like a dozen ties. I've probably worn 3 of them in the past 20 yrs. Most of them are sentimental. Godfather of my Son was a pediatrician. He had tons of ties. Mostly kid based with cartoon characters, Disney, some Jerry Garcia Grateful Dead, weird colorful designs. It helped break the ice with the kids he was treating.

When he died, at the wake they put his ties on a table and you could take what you want. There were probably 100 of them. I took one that was sentimental. Then I took another for my Son, and took a third for my Daughter. Sort of a memory of Uncle John tribute thing. Take a tie, and when you wear it, remember that Uncle John is there and he's close to your heart.

He was an awesome guy. I still have those ties and will not give them up even though I hate ties.

On my way to Beaumont, TX. Dropping off an empty trailer and picking up a full one. Traffic is backed up going across the Atchafalaya swamp. No telling how long it’ll take to get across. But I’m on the clock instead of the mile so it’s no big deal.

Lucky you are not on the Golden Gate watching the rag head rally.

Morning guys. Off for a 5 mile stroll and have a tee time with the brothers later in the morning.

Good morning all, we have decided to add some time to our trip and go to Willamette Valley in Oregon. We may go to Washington after that. Being retired is nice as far as traveling goes. Overall the food has been fantastic. Fresh fish is fantastic, freezing just does something to it, plus the slow cooked experience is refreshing. We have one more day in California to tour the park with the Sequioa trees, and try a few more small wineries. We have shipped some wine home that we have no availability to, and have joined a few wine clubs for the same reason. Enjoy the day, it is beautiful and life is good, praise God!

Read 1659 - 1679 on the "What wine" thread for some suggestions that we liked when we visited last year.
