Speaking of traveling I'm looking forward to getting out of these 110 days into some nice Oregon weather for a week. Flying out Sunday morning and the high temps there look something like our lows here. Also have an August trip planned for Alaska and a September trip to Minnesota for the wife's family reunion.

Made it to Michigan. Truck was stuffed. Bed full, trunk full, rear seat floor to ceiling, passenger floor and seat piled up to the window line. Still forgot things and need to run to town in the morning. I was surprised I was able to fit everything in the ridgeline.

Trimmed and rubbed the butts when I got here and let em sit in the cooler a couple hours. Smokers just hit 225 so I loaded em with the porks.

Starter cord broke on my pitbike on the first startup after unloading and the clockspring broke too so gotta wrap it by hand every startup. Kinda sucks. I tried to order a new one and get it shipped to the track, Amazon said free same day delivery but when I changed the address to the track the delivery date changed to Sunday.

Waiting for my buddy and his rv to arrive so I can load his fridge and get settled. Gonna be a fun weekend, my 18th year doing this event.

Leave it to Mississippi to fuqq up a wet dream. I’m 20 miles from the Louisiana state line and the GPS is showing an hour and 20 minutes to go 10 miles due to road construction.

Have a great time at the track danm. Can't you just start the bike by running it and pop the clutch?

Be safe and have fun danm. You're at a motor track, I would guess there is something around that you could dredge up to fix the pit bike starter. Also as DED mentioned, you can't push/run it and pop the clutch to fire it up (although you probably already thought of that)?

Nah, this is my homemade pitbike with a gokart cvt no lever clutch or fixed gears.

Rope wrapped around thr shaft is working fine for now. Should last for the weekend, just inconvenient.

Someone at work texted me that there's layoffs coming. I don't know how, every single nursing department is horribly understaffed. No chance they're cutting any suits, it'll be nurses. And the new ceo has already said he prefers new nurses because the old ones are too expensive and push back at change. We'll see. Happened to me in 09 at a hospital that eventually went under last year.

Friggin rope pull engine sent me the the emergency years ago. We had it off the cart to rebuild it. After rebuild we tried to start it sitting on the ground before bolting it back in the frame. I stepped on the side of the engine to hold it in place while my brother wrapped the rope and gave it a pull. The engine slipped and the thingy that held the rope tore into my ankle. About 12 stitches.d'oh!

What kinda fun would that be?

Did the yard work today. 85 degrees at the time with 75% humidity. Yeah... I think I need 8 bottles of water.

Man that humidity is killer...

I was foolish, too. 107 and 9% RH, so I mowed the lawn, sprayed the outside of the house and lawn for bugs, trimmed 5 bushes and a small tree and blew off the whole front yard.

It was the first time this year that I added an electrolyte tab to the water bottle. Oof.

Coconut water. Like the real stuff fresh from the coconut with little pieces of coconut in it.

Or Pedialyte... I like the grape flavor. Good stuff if you drink too much the night before. Beer

When I was growing up, we had two coconut trees in our backyard. Every so often we'd get asked by our Samoan, across the fence, neighbors if we wanted our trees trimmed. My Dad was more than happy to let them do the trimming and take all the coconuts they wanted but they would always cut open a few coconuts and offer them for us to drink or if they were "spoon meat," eat straight out of the shell.

Memories make us rich.

That's a GREAT summer day for Orlando. Consider yourself lucky for that this time of year -especially if there was a breeze.

Hopefully your flights are uneventful DED and you have a great vacation.

On a random unrelated note: this past week in my sleepy little town implemented these Bird electric scooter thignies (Bird is the name of the company that the town teamed up with). Electric scooters that you stand on to buzz around town. I think they have a fleet of about 30 of them in town as a starting point.

Apparently you can download this app and rent a scooter. $1 to sign one out then $9/hr to use them. You have to be 18 yrs old, have the app on your phone, and a credit card for them to charge you for it. Apparently they are located in "nesting" areas around town (outside city hall, outside the hospital, outside library, outside the community college, etc) and you can drop them off wherever you please - you don't have to "nest" them. GPS tracking will show you where unused scooters are located. Supposedly at night, the scooters are all collected by couple trucks that pick them up. They recharge them and redeliver them to the "nesting areas" for use the following day. My guess is they swap out fully charged ones and pick up used ones that will be charged overnight for the next day swap outs.

Our town doesn't have a taxi service and very limited Uber or Lyft operators. We have a pretty good bus system but they only operate weekdays from 6am-6pm. Maybe the scooters will work nicely for kids that don't have cars or transportation to the college or people that need to run a quick errand somewhere rather than walking. Maybe others will rent them to tool around town just for fun. It should be interesting but at $10/hr to use them, it seems kind pricey.

With that said, I'll probably rent one someday just to check it out if it ever stops raining this summer.

Today's forecast calls for on and off rain (again) all day today and tomorrow.

Woke up an hour late to get fresh bagels from the shop right when it opened when the bagels are hot; but still got a couple of warm ones in the bag.

Dr. Brown's Cream Soda too. Never again. Dr. Brown's Black Cherry rules with every-thing bagels! Save the cream soda for a corn beef (not pastrami) sandwich.

Going to Costco and then shopping for some runner carpet(s) with wife at HomeGoods.

Home by noon, then chill at home for rest of day.

Hope everyone has a good day today!

I'd take the Voucher... did this at O'Hare one year... caught the next flight out to CO Springs.. it was a direct shot and even though had to wait an hour, we arrived before the original scheduled flight we took the voucher on as it was overbooked (weight wise) plus sat on the ground for Maint. to fix a panel... our bags arrived later in the week... LOL d'oh! d'oh! Beer

Bucky - Seen those scooters and even E-bikes in San Diego. Not sure how the business model is going, and never used them, but it seems like a good idea... until homeless needing meth $$ start tearing them apart to see what's inside and stuff.

Bucky just google yellow bike program problems. We used to like in Aiken, SC, they tried a yellow bike program, it was a disaster, all the bikes were lost, stolen or stripped.

Yeah, Bird does do bikes too but the town just started out with the scooters. It's a third party that supports them (Bird), not necessarily the town. My guess is they got some grant funding from the state or the federal government for some "green initiative" something or other and this is one of the projects that won funding approval. If memory serves me correctly, last fall the town also bought a electric car or SUV that is to be used/shared by the building, zoning, and town maintence departments.

Sounds good on paper but we'll see if it lasts. I'm not opposed to trying new things but this town is not a tourist place and I think the money could be better used elsewhere. Who knows, it may have been part of a grant or accepted proposal for funds that had to be spent on certain particular things (like this) in order to receive further money for other projects like rebuilding some local parks and the new high school and elementary school which they finished up last year.

I'm all for investing in educational systems, town parks, roads, sidewalks, infrastructure and such. I likely wouldn't vote against that. The town or the surrounding towns need a shot of new industry since over time many of the older industries moved out. A developer came in and bought up a bunch of the buildings downtown and are in the process of gutting them (buildings are outdated inside but have beautiful front face architecture). However they are turning them into apartments and condos. Without a booster shot of new industry in the area or the surrounding area, the town will turn into a bedroom community where people live but commute to work elsewhere.

Nope!

Got a free later flight, refund on my flight - and $200 from a rich lady trying desperately to get on the plane from Detroit to Orlando back in the early 80's while I was in college.

She pulled out a wad of $100 bills and peeled two off. My stomach sank because I probably should have asked for more. Turns out she was a grocery chain heiress. LOL. Got into Orlando a couple hours late. No big deal.

BIG money pack then.

OTOH, no hesitation to recently pay $500+ to get on the plane we were there for- which my daughter accidently booked us for the next day. F Spirit!

What's the solution to my recently accepted life situation? There is probably not a single nor 100% correct solution.

My son is 18 and starting college this coming fall. He has a solid girlfriend and they spend a lot of time together (I applaud that). My daughter is 16 and doing some pre college/advanced high school classes this summer and spends a lot of time with her friends (I applaud that too).

Recent reflections from me... it seems like just last week we were a lot younger and we spent our weeknights and weekends at baseball and soccer fields. Dance classes. Doing fund raisers. Water balloon fights in the backyard. Going to the local town events, face painting and that stuff.

I am blessed that they do find time to hang out with the old man but (selfishly) I would like to spend more time with them. They friggin' grow up too fast and I'm getting premature empty nest feelings.

No matter if it's your kids, your friends or family members, cherish your time with them. Before you realize it, things can change right before your eyes.

I think it was 8 track that posted a comment in another thread that I will never forget. "The days are long but the years are short. Enjoy every moment."
