Walkthrough went fine. I added a few things for the punch list.

Passed final county inspection and we have the certificate of occupancy.

Final walkthrough on Feb 12
Close Feb 14
Packing day Feb 15
Truck load Feb 16
Drive to Florida Feb 17-18.

Exciting and exhausting. Never build a house brand new before. I’ve bought spec homes before but this time we started with a dirt lot ten months ago.

This will be my sixth cross county relocation. The plan is it is the last.

Having everything the way you want it vs the time and stress of picking everything out.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

We’ve been very pleased with the process but this is meant to be our final move.

We closed two days early. I now once again own a house in a Florida. The wife did the final walkthrough today and is now heading for the Orlando airport to fly back to Texas tonight.

Packers on Thursday, moving truck on a Friday. Road trip starts Saturday.

I’ve moved to California twice in my life and now Florida three times plus a few other places.

I was in the Navy for 20 years. I moved from the Philippines to San Diego. San Diego to Temecula. Those were my 2 moves in 20 years. Third move was to this house. I hate moving. So I don't do it unless I really have to.

Probably 15x+ (including in and out of college dorms and apartments). Sucks. I hate it. Next time we move will be a downsize in South Florida. I am paying for someone to do all the packing and unloading. I'm getting to old for that chit.

Let’s see…since finishing college….

Florida
San Diego California
Colorado
Florida
San Francisco California
Texas
And now back to Florida

All those were corporate/job moves except now. I gotta actually pay for this one myself.

Before college adds 4 more states and Italy.

We intend this to be the final move.

C'mon that's crazy talk. Although he does have a blimp that flies over his house with the light up words "The World Is Yours", so there's that.

Have you always prefered Florida residency and it was the job that made you move so frequently?

Edit: #177. Got it.

I first moved to Florida when I was in the 3rd grade after my dad retired from the US Army. I’ve lived half my life in Florida, 1/4 in California, and 1/4 everywhere else including even Italy.

My mom and dad are buried in Florida.

My brother spent 30 years in DC working for the federal government and just retired and moved back to Florida.

My favorites are Florida and California. California will be great to still visit but ultimately it is ruined.

Three of our moves were me taking a new job.
One was me doing a corporate relocation.
The move to Texas was my wife doing a corporate relocation. (The relocation package was literally an offer we could not refuse because it was so large.)

This one we are doing all on our own and the wife got to retire.

I liked California from 1991 until... I dunno, maybe early 2000's. It was a nice place to live, it was slightly expensive, but not prohibitively so, and then the place went bat-crap crazy.

The scenery is gorgeous, the beaches are nice, you can go to the mountains, the ocean and the desert in the same day, the weather is damn near perfect all the time. The fishing is great, the Pacific ocean is relatively predictable...

And then it went to shit. Taxes went nuts, gas went nuts, housing went nuts, crime and homelessness went nuts and despite it getting worse and worse, they're just doubling down.

It's a damn shame.

My niece's third birthday...she was born in February 2012...

She's half Chinese, one quarter Mexican and one quarter English...a bonafide SoCal mongrel, except for the absence of Black blood...which enabled her to be born on that day...

Out of the hotel and moved in this morning. Got to see a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch yesterday while sitting in the back yard. Launch parties will be happening in the future.

OK, this thread is done. Who is next to move? It’s not gonna be me.
