Ohhh, yeah. I got a fast trot up, rubbed her eyes for a bit. Smelled me, walked away and it has been the cool shoulder since,

Although tempted, I did NOT go with Why can't you be more like Tank!

To be fair(er), she has been away at her greyhoundgrandmother and a boy greyound who can be a large bit of a handful. She's likely on sensory overload.

To your point.
-Yesterday: 78 degrees, after 25 minutes, had the slightest of sunburns.
-Today, on the jog from the MKE shuttle and our car, in 1 minute, got the slightest if windburns.

So it goes.

Home safely.

Not quite the flawless Trip To Florida run for Delta Airlines.

Today things got off well, landed in ATL on time and assigned gate provided before we touched down.
We went to that gate, and was redirected to a different date. Once there, it said Philadelphia PA.
Waited somewhat patiently, then received alert it changed again. Caused a short panic as is a large airport and our first time there.

Made it about 40 minutes prior to boarding.

Unloading.

He said in my interview that there would be plentiful overtime.

Tomorrow's schedule is stacked deep, so probably more OT tomorrow.

Losing all my differential pay works out to about a 15% pay cut, so I need to do 10% OT every week to make up for it at time and a half. Just 4 hours per week. Got 3 today.

First day was rough coming straight off nights and flipping to days. Last night I was asleep by 2200 and woke up before my alarm around 6. It's gonna take a while for my body to get used to standing all day. My back has not been happy. Doesn't help wearing 20lbs of lead in the room. At first it doesn't feel like much but after a few hours I notice I'm slouching and my back is hurting. I used to wonder why everyone waited until the last minute to put it on and took it off right as soon as the radiation source was turned off. Now I get it. Theres a lot of things I didn't understand about how and why they do things the way they do that I'm understanding already.

My brain is still looking for time off. Hopefully I can retrain myself to work every day like everyone else. I did it until 2015 and it took a while to get used to week on week off. It'll take a while to get used to only weekends off. Hell, from 03-12 I worked 7 days a week. Just gotta get used to it.

52 minutes to get home today. The drive in is much better. The parking is much worse. The drive home is horrible.

36 minutes from when I walked out my door until I started working. Right at an hour from when I quit working until I walked into my house. Full hour and a half spent driving and walking for just an 8 hour shift. It's a lot easier to bear for a 12 hr shift, I gotta do this 5x a week... Might not bother me as much if I was actually moving that whole time. This is for a 9 mile drive.

Most of the jobs I have had always involved driving some distance. When I had my own business this was a normal routine. Worked as an Area Manager and was all over the area.

There's something to be said for having all your time to yourself. At my physical today my doctor asked what I do to occupy my time... walk my dog, go to the gym... do stuff. Fishing season is upon us, so I can add that to the list... and cutting the grass. That season is here, too.

shedding the daily grind/commute, (2 - 2.5 hrs/day) was the most relieving aspect of retirement

I just added it to my life after 8 years of not really dealing with it. Sure I had an occasional 40-60 minute trip in, but 40 is on thr quick end for the drive home.

The schedule is what kept me in my old position for as long as I stayed. 14 years in one place for the 26 weeks off per year.

The job got so bad I was willing to give that up.

Now I think I've made a terrible mistake. New job is stupid easy. But it's every day. No more weeks off. Just most weekends off. Sacrifice free time for a tolerable job or sacrifice sanity and proper sleep doing a chitty job but having more free time... I dunno. It's gonna be a very very long year.

yeah...give it some time, maybe a year, to see how happy/unhappy you are then...go from there...

does the new gig, with shorter workdays, allow you to spend as much time with the boy as you want and do the things you like to do/want to do?

My Cub Cadet push mower and my Cub Cadet riding mower were stored in the new shed, without gas all winter...

...well a rare thing happened this evening. Checked the oil on the push mower, put gas in it, and it started on first pull. Installed the battery on the LT50, checked oil, added fuel...started on first crank.

I've been using the other riding mower since the beginning of February, so I know it runs. Both Stihl trimmers fired too.

The only thing left to check is the 2-stroke water pump that we use to water the garden, with creek water.

Had a lot of problems with equipment the first couple seasons up here, but I'm ready to go for season 3.

I dont really know yet.

I'm so used to having all the free time I never was rushed to fit things into one day. A day or two of things to do was spread out over a week. The boy and I play Xbox for a little bit a few times a week, he gets screentime from 530-730. So that's still on. We watch "Sunday videos" on Sunday mornings.

But dinner for example. I love cooking and I don't have time to do that now. I leave before 7am and get home at 5pm (if I get out on time) We eat at 5pm. Maybe in the summer when it stays light till 8pm I can squeeze in burgers or something but it's real hard to do a 4hr sous vide pork tenderloin with zero minutes to do it.

I only get a daily start time, no end time. And start times range from 0700-0930 and are 8hr shifts but you finish your last case of the day whether it ends at the 8th hour or the 12th.

I promised everyone I would give it a year and I intend to stick to that. It's such a huge change in lifestyle and job I need to give it a fair chance. Most people work like this. I used to work like this and still had time for my hobbies and chores. In fact I think because of the time crunch I got MORE done back then than I did with the week on week off schedule.

Have often had lower back pain over the years. Occasionally, I’d get some upper back pain. The change in pain is somewhat refreshing.

Maybe you could recalibrate your drive and gig that way.
