Drank a bunch of water before bed to force myself awake/up early. Alarm clock won't do it even tho it's on the other side of the room I will crawl back under the covers if I don't NEED to be up. I did need to be up early enough to hopefully sleep tonight so I can be up at 6 to start new job but my sleepy brain says that's a later problem, sleeping is a now problem.

Got up, helped the boy with his pinewood derby car that he waited until the final week to ask about. They had 2 shop days I could've used woodshop tools to do it but he procrastinated so did what I could with my harbor freight table saw.

Back to old keyboard until I decide if I want to purchase new one.

It doesn't use a USB dongle?

Had a ball making those when the younger son was in Cub Scouts. Trueing wheels, polishing nail axels, getting it to roll on three wheels and running a small bead of model cement dusted with graphite around the axels to keep the wheels from sticking to the body paint. A coat of car wax on the wheels and axels helps too.

Let’s see.

Breakfast, Filipino Stew for a noon snack, then shaved steak sammiches with carmelized onions and provolone cheese on toasted French bread. Mayo and garlic butter.

A cigar from Shawn, another from DMV, both so good.

Saw a rainbow.

Eagle Rare now.

Hard to imagine a better day. There have been a string of them. Blessed.

Use graphite powder on the axles and wheels. It's legal and you can get it at the locksmith or where you get pinewood derby parts. Also add as much weight as you can without going over just in front of the rear axle. You want it as heavy as possible without going over. The graphite powder makes a big difference. If you want to really get fancy camber the wheels by bending the axles a hair so just the edge of the wheels are touching the ground. Less surface area means less friction and faster run. Good luck ThumpUp

He doesn't want much of dad's help except for the power tools and melting/pouring hot lead.

Last year he said I did too much. I did all the sanding/painting because he couldn't be bothered to do it. Won 1st in show overall. Won 2nd in race for his grade and 3rd fastest time overall. I was never good at sports as a kid, so when the pinewood derby came up, that was my chance to be competitive and have a chance at winning. I even did one car with those little glass mercury bulbs from old dial thermostats as weights thinking it'll lean forward on the downhill then settle/distribute across the axles at the bottom. I don't think it did a damn thing but it was a fun experiment and something I'd read about in a book from the library.

He wanted to build a train caboose. If he would've gone with me to one of the open house nights at their wood workshop I could've made it at a proper scale. But I have no way of doing the thin slice/hollow car style with the tools I own. I angle cut the roof line, recessed a bit for the cupola, routed out "platforms" on the front and rear. Told him he has to sand it before painting it. He painted it anyway. Now he's upset it's not shiny so I told him to sand it. He said he wants it shiny without sanding it so he's gonna try spraying some clear coat on it. It's his project, I'll let him learn. Too bad they don't do a "dad class" in the derby race. We had that a few times when I was a kid.

I recall one boy using crayons to make his plain block of wood into an ambulance, we helped him to get to the max weight and it was in the top five finishers.

15 minute morning commute is sweet.

But the parking kinda sucks, lots full in the morning.

Another weird thing everyone takes a lunch hour here. I've never had a lunch break in any job I've worked. You just eat when there's a break in the work and if there's no lull, there's no break time.

I have a 30 minute drive everyday, due to distance, not traffic. Did you have a cigar? Always thought about having one while driving but it is hard to find a real good 30 minute cigar...better to wait until I get home, have dinner and then enjoy whatever I want.

I never smoke in my vehicle.

It's a 9 mile commute.

Warm and casual final day.
Sixth straight Tank walk.
Loved the Filipino Egg Rolls …. Lumpia? With sweet chili sauce.
Tried mango. Not bad.
Real tasty chipotle chicken subs.
A cigar out of my league from Shawn, along with a bourbon.
Received a slight sun burn. Took about 25 minutes.

Shawn and Adora are the best hosts ever.

Off to the hareport (as Bugs Bunny would say) in the early morning.

Peace be with you, Brothers.

Please accept my apologies, Papa-yah!

Sounds like a good time was had by all. I don't like saying goodbye to family and folks I like. Goodbye sounds too permanent to me. "Until next time" is better than goodbye.

Kuba will probably be suspicious of the new smells that you bring home. "They've been cheating on me this past week... Damn humans."

Mrs. MACS is a wonderful hostess. I’ve had the pleasure of staying with them 4 times. Each time has been wonderful. She is an excellent chef and I look forward to her eggs rolls and noodles.

Shawn brews a mean cup of coffee and always has a few special smokes stashed away.

Tank is a champ.

Their home is a welcome respite.

Morning folks. Out for a quick walk and then headed to the golf course. Meeting three old buddies from college days for a high stakes match. This has been an ongoing tradition whenever the four of us find ourselves in the same area which only happens about every 5 years. Loser pays for drinks at a local brewery.
